Bacterial antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is among the most urgent global health threats, compromising both infection treatment and prevention. In 2019, AMR was linked to approximately 5 million deaths, representing nearly 9% of global mortality.1 In the same year, AMR was also associated with 66.6 million disability-adjusted life years.1 Without coordinated interventions, AMR could result in up to 8.22 million annual deaths by 2050, potentially becoming the leading cause of mortality worldwide.2 Effective antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programs are projected to prevent approximately 92 million deaths globally between 2025 and 2050.
