Newer clinical tools being pitched for nursing home residents are not necessarily appropriate for routine use in this population — and some, such as urine polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests for urinary tract infections (UTIs), may be detrimental, medical directors said at PALTC25, the annual conference of the Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medical Association (PALTmed), during a session entitled “Breakthrough or Bust: IV Vitamins, Amniotic Membranes, Urine PCR, and Pharmacogenomic Testing.”
