In 1990 when I finished my fellowship training in geriatric medicine at UCLA, I returned to New York City where I’d grown up and knew pretty much what to expect. Between basic science research before medical school, residency in internal medicine, attendance at numerous geriatrics conferences, and two years of fellowship training, the general breadth of geriatric medicine seemed clear.
