Novel coronavirus is spreading all around the world causing severe acute respiratory distress syndrome requiring mechanical ventilation in approximately 5% of infected people. Prone position ventilation has been used to improve oxygenation in patients with severe ARDs and its application has been able to reduce the mortality rate. It is suggested that prolonged proning of up to 36 hours is a feasible, safe option. It is also suggested that patients with COVID-19 who lie prone while supplied oxygen are less likely to need intubation and mechanical ventilation.
