This week, the Society joined 69 other organizations of the Leadership Council of Aging Organization (LACO) in urging Congress to provide funding to expand coverage and access to the COVID-19 vaccine. The group asked that leaders provide additional funding to States to distribute the vaccine and to aging services network organizations for vaccine-related services, “we urge Congress to support an additional $200 million boost to federal investments in Older Americans Act III B Supportive Services.”

The letter also noted the federal partnership that sends retail pharmacies into nursing homes has resulted in some missed opportunities to vaccinate eligible individuals and staff. The groups urged, “new flexibility that allows for participation in both federal program and other approaches.”
