Policy Snapshot

Last week, the Society signed on to an American Medical Association letter written for Elizabeth Fowler, the new deputy administrator and director of the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI). The letter congratulates the deputy administrator on her appointment. The remainder of the letter provides recommendations for improving the design and implementation of alternative payment models (APMs) and engaging physicians in the process. Many groups have expressed concerns over the lack of APMs in which their members can participate under MACRA and the lack of action by CMMI on the APM proposals recommended by the Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC).  Some of the recommendations include greater transparency, extending incentive payments, and providing physician organizations with adequate feedback and data.
