Stroke is a global health problem, with an estimated lifetime risk of 23% in high-income Asia-Pacific regions, including Japan.1 In Japan, rehabilitation units for functional recovery after stroke have been established as a Japanese version of convalescent rehabilitation, and are covered by insurance. It is important to predict the discharge destination of patients with stroke and to appropriately plan an efficient discharge early in the hospitalization process. A score can be used to predict home discharge of patients from hospitals after an acute stroke, but it is not known whether it can be applied to patients in rehabilitation units.
