We read with interest the comment on our recent study titled “Decreased Basal Metabolic Rate Can Be an Objective Marker for Sarcopenia and Frailty in Older Males.”1 In this study, we showed that a lower basal metabolic rate (BMR) was associated with a higher prevalence of sarcopenia and frailty and that BMR/BSA (body surface area) might be an indicator for screening the 2 geriatric syndromes in older males. The multiple linear regression analysis was used to predict BMR parameters after adjustment for age, hypertension, and diabetes as independent variables, but comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) parameters were not used simultaneously for the analysis as the author mentioned.
