Caring for the Ages
Several years ago, I worked as the registered nurse weekend supervisor in a continuing care community that included a memory unit. One of the pleasures of the job, particularly in the early weeks when I was still getting to know people, was visiting with the memory unit residents between my rounds. I remember being thoroughly beaten at bridge by people who couldn’t tell me who the president was and receiving unasked-for fashion advice from women residents who clearly used to spend more money on clothes than I would ever do.
