Quetiapine Induced Urinary Dysfunction: An Adverse Anticholinergic Effect Needing Recognition

Urinary incontinence (UI) and retention (UR) can impact patient comfort and quality of life, and are rare adverse drug effects (ADEs) of antipsychotic agents. UI occurs with most typical antipsychotics in various dosages, even without pre-existing bladder dysfunction, but rarely reported with atypical antipsychotics. UR, on the other hand, is even rarer. The manifestations are either extrapyramidal or anticholinergic ADEs.
