As providers in post-acute and long-term care aspire to excellence in providing person-centered care for their residents, integrating personalized precision medicine would seem to be a natural extension of this goal. In this vein, the field of pharmacogenomics (PGx) is gaining momentum and will have increasing applicability to long-term care. Newly approved medications are now targeting receptors related to gene anomalies, and first- and second-generation legacy medications are being re-evaluated.
