Personalization of Reminiscence Therapies in the Nursing Home Setting: Lessons from an Embedded Pragmatic Trial of a Music Intervention

Music & MEmory: A Pragmatic TRial for Nursing Home Residents With ALzheimer's Disease (METRIcAL) was an embedded, pragmatic randomized controlled trial (ePCT) that tested the effect of a personalized music intervention on the frequency of agitated behaviors in nursing home (NH) residents with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD). The trial was carried out in 54 NHs (27 treatment, 27 control) from 4 corporations located in the Midwest, South, and Central Eastern United States, and enrolled 976 residents with ADRD [483 intervention and 493 control; mean age 79.8 (SD: 12.2); 25.7% African American] between June 2019 and March 2020.
