The Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medical Association (PALTmed) and its Infection Advisory Committee recently released a consensus statement on the “Use of Urine Polymerase Chain Reaction Testing (PCR) for Urinary Tract Infections (UTI).” Lead author Jessica Zering, PharmD, said, “This consensus statement specifically looks at urine polymerase chain reaction testing, which is a newer test being promoted to long-term care facilities as faster and superior to established urine culture techniques. We essentially examined the role of this test within the context of current best practice.”
