In 2011, all Medicare beneficiaries were entitled to receive an Annual Wellness Visit as part of the Affordable Care Act. This is a no-cost visit for the patient, provided the physician does not give additional services or order tests. The Wellness Visit covers a review of family and medical history, immunizations, blood pressure, screening for depression, cognitive impairment, and functionality. It is focused on preventive services, and patients should receive a written assessment of preventive needs.
