Lower Extremity Impairment Parallels Cognitive Impairment as a Cause of Disability: A Call for Public Awareness

Cognitive impairment, because of its long-term and devastating toll on individuals, families, and the health care system, has appropriately received much emphasis in practice, policy, advocacy, education, and research circles.1–3 At the same time, lower extremity impairment as a cause of disability and health care resource use has been growing without fanfare, yet it too has devasting consequences. This editorial is a call for public awareness about this issue.
