Long-term Care Resident Quality of Life 1 Year Following Initial COVID-19 Vaccination

The impact of early COVID-19 pandemic on residents in long-term care facilities (LTCF) was tremendous. Through 2020, the COVID-19 death rate was as high as 20% in patients over 85 years and over one third of all COVID-19 related deaths occurred in residents in LTCF. The impact of the mandated isolation was its own pandemic in this vulnerable population. By October 2020, nursing home residents and healthcare workers were the top priority for the newly authorized mRNA vaccinations starting in January 2021.
