Letter to the Editor Re: Manis DR, Bronskill SE, Rochon PA, et al. Defining the Assisted Living Sector in Canada: An Environmental Scan. J Am Med Dir Assoc. 2022;23(11):1871-1877.e1

Dr Manis and colleagues1 attempted to define the assisted living (AL) sector in Canada. Continuing care for older adults (including AL) is regulated individually by each of the 13 Canadian provinces and territories, leading to substantial heterogeneity in the definition, organization, and delivery of AL. The authors' intent of providing clarity about these settings is laudable and much needed to facilitate cross-jurisdictional comparisons; however, important details are absent from their environmental scan, which we wish to address to educate readers more fully.
