Letter to the Editor Re: “Raising the Bar for Physicians Practicing in Nursing Homes: Is Specialty Status the Answer?”

Dr Katz et al present a compelling call for improving the quality of medical care in US nursing facilities and propose specialty designation as an important first step in achieving this goal.1 I agree whole-heartedly with my colleagues that we as a profession need to continue to promote quality medical care for all residents and patients receiving care in our nation's nursing homes and raise the bar for customary practices. I also agree that we need to shift our long-standing approaches and strategies in trying to achieve this worthy goal.
