Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are among the most commonly prescribed medications for nursing home (NH) residents and are often administered without the criteria for appropriate use.1-3 Previous studies found high rates of inappropriate use of PPIs in NHs,2-4 indicating an urgent need to optimize their prescription. The increasing numbers of prescribed medications (despite gastrotoxic drugs), comorbidities, anticoagulants, and corticosteroids were identified as predictors of inappropriate PPI use.
