Pain is a common problem in long-term care, yet sometimes it can be hard to get people to take pain seriously. Barbara Resnick, PhD, CRNP, FAAN, FAANP, of the University of Maryland School of Nursing, said, “Pain is not an issue if you ask people while they are sitting still or lying in bed, but if we move a resident or ask them to put a shirt on and raise their arms, they have pain. I think it’s very underassessed, underevaluated, and undertreated.”
