On June 28, 2024, the U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) issued a landmark decision in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo (Loper Bright). This decision marked the end of a 40-year fundamental tenet of administrative law known as “Chevron deference.” The Chevron v. National Resources Defense Council case was a 1984 decision by SCOTUS holding that federal courts should defer to an agency’s interpretation of a statute if the statute is ambiguous so long as the agency’s interpretation is reasonable and permissible.
