Hip fracture is a consequential health event for older adults,1 and heart failure (HF) is a prevalent comorbidity that can increase care complexity2 and leads to increased hospital utilization.3–5 Prior studies of hospital utilization of those with HF after hip fracture have focused on cross-sectional readmission rates or cumulative frequency.3–5 Better understanding of longitudinal utilization trajectories after surgery are needed but are prone to selection bias because the likelihood of having HF is not random.
