Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a serious threat driven by excessive antimicrobial use.1 AMR rates in Australian long-term residential aged care homes (RACH) are higher than in community or hospital settings.2 Antibiotic usage is increasing,3 with urinary tract infection (UTI) the most common infection treated in this setting.4 Point of care urine dipstick testing (UDT) commonly triggers antibiotic prescribing even in the absence of symptoms.
