Diabetes Technology: A Call to Action for Use in Post-Acute and Long-Term Care

There was a recent article published in the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology, “Continuous Glucose Monitoring in Older Adults: What We Know and What We Have Yet to Learn,” that should be of significant interest to the readers of this journal.1 Prevalence of diabetes mellitus in older adults is significant given >25% of older adults 65 to 75 years of age and 40% of those >80 years of age carry this diagnosis.2 Utilization of diabetes technology including continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices and insulin pumps has been rapidly expanding in older adults with ongoing scientific advancements, and prevalence of diabetes in this population.
