Dermatitis Caused by Nutritional Deficiency in Older Adults: Not a Myth

Nutritional risk increases with advanced age due to socioeconomic situations, medications, physical impairments, and overall diminished organ system reserves and weakened homeostatic controls. Social isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a severe increase in nutritional risk in this already vulnerable population. Although it is important to focus on protein deficiency when assessing nutritional status of geriatric patients, one should also consider trace elements and vitamins, which can have diverse presentations, including dermatitis.
