Caring for the Ages
Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center in New York City — specifically, the unique program there for the care of individuals with late-stage Huntington’s disease (HD) — has been the setting for a novel program designed to introduce fourth-year medical students to a nursing home residential setting. Our program enables students who are embedded in the usual nursing home–starved curricula to experience a long-term care residential setting, and to touch and be touched by the lives of individuals and their families who are experiencing late-stage HD.
