In a recent issue of JAMDA, Fiske et al1 examined the nutritional status among older adults receiving skilled home nursing care by demographic data and use of prescribed drugs. The authors found notable findings that the risk for malnutrition was higher in older individuals who were living with others than in those living alone. Interestingly, they also reported that nonpolypharmacy (≤5 drugs in regular use) was an independent predictor of malnutrition risk in this population, suggesting that the relationship between malnutrition and polypharmacy needs to be examined in more detail.
