Risk factors for chronic conditions, such as increasing age, smoking, hypertension, and diabetes, are more prevalent in people with dementia.1 As a result, comorbidity is common in this population.2 Consequently, medical specialists (MS) are likely to encounter patients with dementia or cognitive impairment (CI) during outpatient visits. Because CI can have a serious impact on consultations, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis, it is highly relevant that MS recognize CI during their practice.3-6
