CMS Misses December 31, 2019, Deadline for APM Incentive Payments

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued an advisory notice on December 26, 2019, indicating the agency would fail to meet the self-imposed deadline of December 31, 2019, to distribute all CY 2019 Advanced Alternative Payment Model (APM) incentive payments.

Qualifying APM Participants (QPs) were eligible for bonus payments in 2019 based on their 2017 participation in an advanced APM. CMS began distributing incentive payments on September 26, 2019, and aimed to complete payments by December 31, 2019, but indicated missing banking information for certain QPs prevented the agency from processing all CY 2019 incentive payments.

CMS requires QPs who have not yet received performance year 2017 incentive payments to submit additional banking information to process the bonus payments. CMS has provided a list of QPs eligible for incentive payments in CY 2019 and updated instructions to submit correct banking information. This instructional document can be downloaded here.
