Adapting Our Care for Younger Residents in Long-Term Care

Caring for the Ages
As a family medicine physician, treating patients across the age spectrum is not unusual for me. Most of my experiences have been in clinical and hospital settings, but I am beginning to have more experience with younger patients in the post-acute and long-term care setting. My youngest patient, Rose, was 33 when she was first admitted to skilled nursing and then transitioned to long-term care. At that time, I was 30 myself, so it seemed strange to be caring for someone so close to my own age, especially as a geriatrician.
