Viral infections such as influenza, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) disproportionately affect post-acute and long-term care (PALTC) residents.1,2 During the 2024 to 2025 respiratory virus season, hospitalization rates for PALTC residents peaked at 92, 45, and 18 per 100,000 PALTC residents for influenza, COVID-19, and RSV, respectively.3 Of the 1.4 million PALTC residents in the United States, over 80% are ≥65 years old, 75% have hypertension, nearly 50% have dementia, and over 33% have diabetes, conditions associated with increased risk of severe infections because of these respiratory viruses.
