Caring for the Ages

When my daughter was in the seventh grade, she participated in a National History Day contest (https://nhd.org/en/) in which students from across the country present a wide variety of historical research projects. Her project was an exhibit focused on the care of individuals living with mental illness during the 19th century. The content was well-researched and interesting, but it was clear that a middle school student had constructed the exhibit. Her small, trifold board with text and photographs appeared overshadowed by the tall, elaborate exhibits that surrounded it.
