Urge Your Representative to Avert Looming Cuts in Medicare Payments

September 24, 2021
Policy Snapshot

Tell your representative to join their colleagues in stopping a confluence of payment cuts to Medicare. In what amounts to a “perfect storm” of payment reductions going into effect in 2022, several Medicare spending cuts will result in a combined 9.75% payment cut for physician practices, including nursing home visits, on January 1, 2022. This would directly impact Medicare patients’ ability to access care moving forward. And all of this comes at a time when physician practices are still recovering from the personal and financial impacts of the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Reps. Ami Bera, MD (D-CA) and Larry Bucshon, MD (R-IN) have stepped up to help prevent these cuts. They are circulating a “Dear Colleague” letter urging House leaders to extend the 3.75% increase to the Medicare conversion factor that Congress included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 to provide continued stability to the physician and provider community as it works toward broader Medicare payment reform.

We are asking that you call on your member of the House of Representatives to join in on this letter to help avert these payment cuts.
