Columbia, MD – AMDA – The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care (PALTC) Medicine has released a COVID-19 vaccine education toolkit to answer the questions PALTC staff, patients, residents, and family members have about the vaccines. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that long-term care residents and staff will be given first access to the vaccines as soon as they are available. The toolkit includes:

  • Questions and Answers about the COVID-19 Vaccines for PALTC Staff, Patients, Residents and Family Members
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Answers to Your Questions (PowerPoint Presentation for Staff and Residents)
  • Letter from Medical Director to Residents and Families About the COVID-19 Vaccines
  • Strategies for Improving Staff and Resident Confidence in the COVID-19 Vaccines
  • An episode of AMDA COVID-19 Grand Rounds: Pearls from Your Colleagues Focused on the Vaccines

“With the vaccines about to become available, there are many challenges. People are wondering if they are going to be safe and effective. They have a lot of apprehension and a lot of questions,” said Leslie Eber, MD, CMD, a member of AMDA’s Board of Directors who led efforts to create the toolkit. “The goal of the toolkit is to make sure everyone has a game plan for educating staff, residents, and families. It is imperative that we address everyone's concerns about the vaccine and answer questions honestly. Education is the pathway to understanding the COVID-19 vaccines and feeling comfortable about its safety and efficacy.

“We truly appreciate the efforts of Dr. Eber and our other members who created this toolkit; it was an important and necessary undertaking. We urge people to use it and to share it,” added Christopher E. Laxton, CAE, AMDA’s executive director. “We need to make sure everyone is educated about the vaccine and that our residents and front-line staff members get them as soon as they are available.”

The toolkit is available here. It is free for both members and nonmembers, but a registration is required to gain access. Please email emullally@paltc.org if you have any questions.
