Calf Circumference as a Case-Finding Tool for Sarcopenia: Influence of Obesity on Diagnostic Performance

We read with interest the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) 2019 consensus update.1 Akin to the direction adopted by its European counterpart, AWGS 2019 aims to promote greater integration of sarcopenia in clinical practice by making it easier to conduct community case finding in an efficient manner.2 Beyond the 5-item SARC-F questionnaire, AWGS 2019 additionally recommends calf circumference (CC) as a screening tool for case finding of at-risk populations in community settings for further evaluation.
