Episode-Based Cost Measure Development Project Seeks Clinicians, Practice Managers, and Quality Improvement Professionals

December 19, 2019
Policy Snapshot

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has contracted with Acumen, LLC to develop episode-based cost measures for their potential use in the cost performance category of the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS). As part of Wave 3 of measure development, Acumen is preparing for field testing of the newly developed episode-based cost measures.

An episode-based cost measure development project is seeking clinicians, practice managers, and quality improvement professionals to help test cost measure reports and provide feedback. To participate, you must work for a practice that sees Medicare patients. The Society has met with CMS to discuss issues with the current cost measures in the MIPS and asked that CMS provide access to field reports that will allow clinicians to see how changes to the measure will affect their practice. In response, CMS has opened up this opportunity for clinicians to participate in this project. Sessions will take place in December 2019. They will last approximately 60 minutes and will be held via web conference.
