Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a group of neurodegenerative disorders where there is atrophy of the frontal/temporal areas of the brain responsible for executive function and language. Primary progressive aphasia is a subtype of frontotemporal dementia, primarily affecting language. Language and communication skills typically decline gradually and subsequently, impacting interactions with others. There is literature that looks at the relationship and communication between residents, families and nursing home staff.
