Recurrent Shingles in a Frail Nonagenarian

Herpes Zoster (HZ) is a neurocutaneous disease caused by reactivation of latent Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV). Although up to 20% of people develop shingles during their lifetime, it predominantly affects older individuals. The lifetime recurrent rate of HZ in the general population is approximately 1-6%, and it is increased in people with advanced age, disease, and compromised immune system. It may progress to post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN), leading to significant dysfunction, debility, and morbidity.
