Integrating the Online Core Curriculum on Medical Direction in PA/LTC in an Academic Family Medicine Residency Nursing Home Experience
Introducing residents of family medicine programs to a standardized nursing home curriculum is key to not only providing educational opportunities but ultimately providing quality, compassionate care to residents of nursing homes. Many graduates of family medicine programs will have opportunities to practice in the nursing home setting, and as such, having early exposure to the Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine organization is vital. Having previously been in assisted living facilities and family care homes, the Duke Family Medicine residency program was poised to create a unique learning experience integrating modules from the Online Core Curriculum on Medical Direction in the PA/LTC with hands-on patient care when they formed a collaborative partnership in mid-2018 with one of Durham's local nursing homes.
