Many older residents are prescribed psychoactive medications to improve sleep quality. These include antipsychotics, anxiolytics, and hypnotics. These medications are often prescribed in together and with narcotics. This practice places older adults at risk of falling, sudden death, and poor quality of life. The practice is seen in acute care and ambulatory settings. When residents are admitted to our unit, we attempt to follow CMS regulations and recommendations to provide quality care.
