Interpreting Heterogeneous Findings in Immersive Virtual Reality–based Reminiscence Interventions for Mental Health

Immersive virtual reality (iVR)–based interventions are increasingly being investigated as nonpharmacological approaches to support mental health in long-term care (LTC). A recent systematic review and meta-analysis provides evidence that iVR-based psychological interventions can lead to significant improvements in specific mental health outcomes, particularly symptoms of depression and anxiety in older adults.1 Nevertheless, findings across studies remain heterogeneous, especially when interventions target broader, experience-based dimensions of mental health.
