Sarcopenia — the progressive loss of muscle mass and strength — is a silent epidemic in post-acute and long-term care facilities. The prevalence of sarcopenia is about 50% in post-acute facilities and between 17.7% and 73.3% in long-term care facilities (Osteoporos Int 2018;29:805–812; Adv Nutr 2019;10:51–58). While we all know it when we see it, managing sarcopenia effectively requires a coordinated team approach and practical solutions that work in the real world of PALTC (see Table 1).
