Dementia Care: An Ever-Growing Controversy

Dear Dr. Diane: I recently listened to your PALTtalk podcast entitled “BPSD Bootcamp: What to Do in a Crisis?” (https://bit.ly/3YkNEa2), and I was wondering about approaches to dementia. The son of one of my patients with Alzheimer’s disease said he felt guilty about sending his mother to my facility, and that he didn’t realize that getting old would be so bad. After many days of discussion, it was clear that he thought her condition was all about her age, even stating that he gave her a different diet and supplements he had bought online to stop her dementia from worsening.
