Promoting Effective Use of Technology to Support Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Facilities
When I was first approached to help edit this special issue on “Technology in PA-LTC: Innovations and Applications,” I was hesitant. Although I have considerable experience with research on aging and technology use, I have had minimal exposure to that concerned with post-acute and long-term care facilities. Nonetheless, I took this task on because I believe that human factors principles for good design and training for aging adults ought to apply to all settings.1,2 Ensuring appropriate person-environment fit is a core principle of the Center for Research and Education on Aging and Technology Enhancement (CREATE: www.create-center.org), a center I belong to, now in its fifth round of 5-year funding as a Program Project grant from the National Institutes of Health, National Institute on Aging.
