We write in response to the article recently published in JAMDA titled “Meta-Analysis of Fall Risk in Older Adults with Alzheimer's Disease,” to highlight the challenge of detecting falls among persons living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia. The meta-analysis is based on 31 studies of data for 4654 persons with Alzheimer's disease. It found a pooled annual fall prevalence rate of 44%, average annual number of falls 1.3/person, annual rate of recurrent fallers 42%, and reported rate of injured fallers of 45%.
