Sarcopenia is characterized by decreased muscle strength and low muscle mass.1 Increasing age, poor physical activity, and multiple comorbidities predispose to sarcopenia.2 High social risk has also been suggested as a contributing factor, but information is limited.3 Drawing on the existing database from the Three Villages Study, we examined the association between social risk and sarcopenia in community-dwelling older adults living in Atahualpa, El Tambo, and Prosperidad, 3 neighboring rural villages located in coastal Ecuador.
