Hip fracture entails both clinical and economic burden, especially in Europe and North America.1 In Spain, hip fractures have an incidence of 104 per 100,000 patients per year and it is expected to grow. There is clear evidence that multidisciplinary teams and fast-track increase survival rates and functionality, while reducing complications and hospital stay.2 Expenses related to hip fracture are as high as $40,000 in the United States3 and $12,000 in Spain.4 Indirect costs are estimated to add more than 20%.
