Tennessee Physician Is 2018 Medical Director of the Year
Columbia, MD—The Foundation for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine has named Eric Hasemeier, DO, CMD, as its 2018 Medical Director of the Year. Dr. Hasemeier is the medical director for eight facilities in rural Tennessee and CEO and founder of Dr. Hasemeier & Associates, which specializes in post-acute and long-term care.
Dr. Hasemeier is recognized as a consummate leader by his colleagues. He participates in his facilities’ surveys, meeting with surveyors and making himself available to address questions and issue that arise. He has helped more than one facility become deficiency-free; and he has established positive relationships with surveyors in his state, who know him as a source of honest, accurate information. He also has led several important quality improvement efforts in his facilities. He introduced an aggressive antibiotic stewardship program that has significantly reduced the incidence of C. diff. He also established ongoing gradual dose reductions efforts for antipsychotics and anxiolytics that reduced the percentage of patients using these drugs from over 50% to under 10%. At the same time, he developed an aggressive bladder retraining program that has significantly reduced and even eliminated the in-house use of Foley catheters.
Not only does Dr. Hasemeier deliver regular educational programs for staff and practitioners at his facilities, but he also presents on a variety of topics throughout the state and nationally.
“It’s an honor to be recognized, especially by my peers and colleagues,” says Dr. Hasemeier. He adds, “I’ve found my niche and purpose in life. This is my dream job. Every morning, I get up and look forward to going to work. I love what I do.”
The Medical Director of the Year Award, established in 2007, recognizes those individuals whose vision, passion, leadership, and commitment succeed in taking patient care in the facilities they serve as medical directors to exceptional levels of quality, excellence, and innovation.
