JAMDA Ranks 4th Most Cited Journal
Columbia, MD – The 2011 Science Citation Index (SCI) Impact Factor (IF), which measures the average citations to articles published in scientific and social science journals, ranks JAMDA, the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association (AMDA – Dedicated to Long Term Care Medicine), 4th in a field of 44 journals in the Geriatrics & Gerontology category, up from 6th place ranking in 2010 and up from a 7th place ranking in 2009. JAMDA received an IF of 4.645 in 2011, compared to 4.492 in 2010 and 3.789 in 2009.
JAMDA publishes peer-reviewed articles including original studies, reviews, clinical experience articles, case reports, and other items. Established in 2000, the journal currently is indexed by Excerpta Medica, MEDLINE®, EMBASE, Current Contents/Clinical Medicine, and the Cumulative Index for Nursing and Allied Health Literature. John Morley, MB, BCh, has been Editor-in-Chief since 2007; prior to that, Dan Osterweil, MD, CMD, served in that role.
“The fact that the impact factor for a geriatric journal is so high is showing that at last there is recognition of the importance of care for older persons. In addition this provides major recognition for nursing home medicine as a specialty in its own regard. The editorial board and I are enormously pleased by this recognition,” said Dr. Morley.
Eugene Garfield, the founder of the Institute for Scientific Information, is credited with devising the IF. These factors are calculated annually for journals indexed in Thomson Reuter’s Journal Citation Reports. The IF of a journal is the average number of citations to those papers that were published during the two preceding years.
