AMDA President Invited Participant at White House Conference on Aging
Columbia, MD – AMDA – The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (AMDA) President Naushira Pandya, MD, CMD, FACP, has been invited to participate in the White House Conference on Aging (WHCOA), Monday, July 13, 2015. The 2015 WHCOA is being held during a year that marks the 50th anniversary of Medicare, Medicaid, and the Older Americans Act, as well as the 80th anniversary of Social Security. The White House, AMDA, and many other organizations involved in caring and advocating for the nation’s elders are taking the opportunity to recognize the importance of these key programs as well as to look ahead to the issues that will help shape the landscape for older Americans for the next decade.
The conference will focus on four main priority areas: retirement security, healthy aging, long-term services and supports, and elder justice. The WHCOA has issued policy briefs on each of these issues, which can be found here. In a letter to WHCOA Executive Director Nora Super, AMDA recommended issues for comprehensive and in-depth consideration by the WHCOA within three of the four priority areas including delivering and financing long-term care services and supports; supporting efforts to reduce use of antipsychotic medications in nursing home residents; and more.
AMDA is encouraging all post-acute and long-term care stakeholders to participate in the WHCOA. Join our virtual viewing party by tuning in to https://www.whitehouse.gov/live Monday, July 13th, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM ET and getting involved in the conversation on Twitter by using #WHCOA. “It is a tremendous honor to be invited to participate in the White House Conference on Aging,” said Dr. Pandya. “AMDA has participated before and is excited to continue to represent the post-acute and long-term care continuum. We hope we can bring to the forefront important changes we think are necessary to provide quality care for our national elders, but also to highlight the great work we know is already taking place. We’re proud to advocate for post-acute and long-term care patients, practitioners, and other stakeholders on the national stage.”
Dr. Pandya is Professor and Chair of the Department of Geriatrics at Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine and is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, and Endocrinology. She had the honor of serving on a panel of experts at the White House Conference on Aging Regional Forum in Tampa, FL, and more recently participated in the White House Forum on Antibiotic Stewardship.
